About

Welcome to my site!

I'm a hobby-environmentalist, with 'green leanings'. I'm concerned about the 'planet and climate change' - while at the same time, enjoying many of the benefits of our energy-dependent society. I'm not a professional, but I keep my interest up-to-date by reading both popular and professional journals, and following university courses.

I first heard of the idea of "Fertilising the Oceans with Iron" in a New Scientist article in 2001[1] a proposal which horrified me.
It then got mentioned in an Open University course I followed (S269: Earth and Life), before a mention in 'U316: The Environmental Web'[2], another Open University course which focuses on web research and the environment.
U316 required an a end-of-course project on an "Environmental issue of my choice", and my offering is in a subsite within this site.
The project had a 3,000 word limit; this site has none.

Having read a wealth of publications from all sides, my investigation into the "what, why, how, who and where" of ocean iron-fertilisation has not changed my views - but they are now more informed.
This site presents a synthesis of my reading and my conclusions.
My target audience is "someone like me": an 'interested layman', aware of environmental concepts and concerns, and alarmed (or excited) by the proposal to dump tonnes of iron into our oceans.

(PS. I know i am inconsistent in my spelling of "fertilisation/fertilization" within this site. This is intentional, to target search-engines for both spellings ;-) )
