StagHunting in the Southwest as sustainable exploitation of natural wildlife

Summary

Stag Hunting has been practiced in the UK since prehistoric times, for meat and pelts for clothing.
Today, 3 stag hunts survive in England, all in the southwest.
In addition to meat, these hunts form part of necessary herd-management, and provide many necessary services to landowners.
The hunt is a traditional English sport, involves 'the whole community' and provides both direct employment and supports side-industries.

Crucially, the hunt plays a central role of 'identity' within a community, providing not only economic benefits, but also social and historical links.

Chosen Website

The chosen website is a report of "Stag hunting and Sustainable Use" by the Countryside Alliance, and compares Stag hunting in the southwest with game hunting in Zimbabwe.
