The theory of Continental Drift, or Plate Tectonics, does not have worldwide consensus. This page discusses a few of the alternative theories:

Creationism

"In the beginning, God said 'Let There Be Light' - and six days later, the world was created as we see it now. Any changes to His world are attributed to the 'The Deluge' - Noah's Flood. This belief held firm for hundreds of years in the Western, Christian world; and still has its adherents today. (Although I have repeatedly read that "33 - 50% of all Americans believe in Creationism" this appears to be a grossly exaggerated claim. Those who want to have manipulated statistics to vastly inflate the figures by claiming all members of a particular sect; or surveys asking "do you believe in the Bible?" have regarded all replies of "yes" implying a belief in Genesis, too.)
However; there are still many who do believe that God created the world in 6 days, about 10 000 years ago. (The date of 22nd October 4004BC as Reverand Ussher calculated was disproved when explorers to China found family records extending back more than 6 000 years. That discovery suggested a small error in calculation.)

Expanding Earth

In the theory of the 'explanding Earth', the oceanic rifts are simply cracks in the skin of the planet as it grows.
In this model, the continents originally formed a continuous unbroken mono-plate crust over the entire surface of a planet, with a far smaller radius. As exponential expansion proceeded, the original single mono-plate crust rifted apart, eventually forming deep intercontinental ocean basins and a collection of individual continental plates. Most of this continental plate break-up and deep ocean basin-formation occurred over the past 200 million years - although some Creationists with their 'young Earth' belief are beginning to embrace some factors of the Expanding Earth theory.

Shock Dynamics

A new geology theory featuring impact-powered rapid continental drift as an alternative to plate tectonics

Plate Tectonics says it took 180 million years...
Shock Dynamics says it took about a day...

Shattering a block of ice with a hammer causes major restructuring in an instant.

"For Earth, the meteorite impact was the hammer blow, and the continental crust was the slab of ice. Had it been much larger, the collision might have shattered the entire planet."

Evidence backing this theory, and a critiques questioning the accepted theory of Plate Tectonics, can be seen at: Shock Dynamics

Many thanks to John Michael Fischer for providing the link.
